Onyx Energy is a sub-metering and billing provider for utilities with a focus on sustainability and conservation; they assist their clients in making positive decisions regarding utility usage to lower their carbon footprint. Onyx and Enviro-Stewards met at a Sustainable Waterloo Region Event where they are both members. They intend to collaborate on efforts relating to the importance of water conservation.

As a component of this partnership, Onyx has chosen to sponsor discounts for the construction of bio-sand filters through the Safe Water Project on behalf of customers of their sub-metering business. The biofilters are constructed by a locally owned and operated social venture using locally available materials. Each biofilter will provide safe water for up to 10 people for about 25 years.
