Amayengo (Ripples)

Ngongakinda (Resilience)

Amayengo (Ripples) was the feature film of the 2024 Impact Film Festival and also a celebration story for the 20th anniversary of SWSV. It shares the story of a new project launch in Jinja area of Uganda and the impacts this is having in the lives of people, families, and communities.

Check out our short documentary film, “Ngongakinda (reslience)”, which illustrates the life-saving impacts access to safe drinking water provides in communities in Uganda. This short film was the feature film of the 2022 Impact Film Festival and shares some of the origin story of the current projects in Uganda and future hopes of the work.

Our 3rd annual Impact Film Festival, took place at the Apollo Theatre during the evening of November 21st 2024. It was also a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Safe Water Social Ventures (SWSV).

Every year the Enviro-Stewards team proudly hosts an event to raise awareness and fundraise for Safe Water Social Ventures. The Impact Film Festival (IFF) provides a unique platform for showcasing powerful films that promote social and environmental causes. It is an inspiring event that connects changemakers, innovators, and communities who are passionate about creating a better world.

With a focus on short films from Canada and around the globe, the festival highlighted stories of individuals, organizations, and initiatives that are driving social change. The 2024 IFF displayed 10 different short films.

We provide training, tools, and mentoring to local teams, equipping them so they can provide safe water to their communities.

Sustainable Safe Water Model

1 in 3 people globally don’t have access to safe drinking water. They have water, it just isn't safe to drink. The water related illnesses near our projects include cholera, typhoid, dysentery, amoeba, and worms. Safe Water Social Ventures provides training to local teams, enabling them to build a sustainable business and provide water that is both safe and affordable for their communities.

Set-up & Support

We provide training, tools, and mentoring, equipping teams to provide safe water to their communities. The projects use sustainable technology (bio-sand filter) that does not require energy or chemicals to operate, is easy to maintain, and can be constructed using locally available materials.

Training

Learn how to manage a business, teach others and construct, household water filters.

Tools

Supply Bio-sand filter moulds, hand tools, and raw materials (future materials are purchased with revenue from bio-sand filter sales).

Mentoring

Monthly reporting and technical support, annual visits and connection to Bio-sand Networks.

SWP Impact

The Safe Water Social Ventures model is formulated not to create dependency on foreign aid, but rather it enables communities to provide for themselves, create jobs and improve health through information sharing and use of local resources.

A bio-sand filter provides safe water to an average of 7 people for 25+ years. Filters can be used in homes, schools and businesses.

Clean water adds an additional 8 years of healthy active life to both parents and children of families that receive a bio-sand filter.

Bio-sand Filters: Proven Technology 100+ Years

Bio-sand filters are made from slow sand technology and are proven effective. These filters have three major advantages that make it a very successful solution in many parts of the world.

No chemicals or moving parts are required to operate a bio-sand filter making it easy to maintain.

Bio-sand filters typically last for 25 years, providing a safe, reliable source of water. They are also refurbished easily.

Filters are constructed in rural communities from locally available materials, supporting the economy.
